Learning and support
Ask how teachers share progress, what happens when a child needs extra help, and how a family can speak with the right person. Write down a specific example the school offers rather than relying on a broad promise.
A school visit is easier to compare when you leave with notes about learning, belonging, support, logistics and the next enrollment step.

Notice how adults speak with students, how families are welcomed, and what a typical day feels like. Ask how children build friendships and what support exists when a child feels disconnected.
Confirm the school day, before or after school options, transportation route and who determines eligibility. A school tour can inform your choice, but only the school or district can confirm assignment and availability.
Use the same five questions at each school so a memorable tour does not outweigh practical fit. Include your child’s perspective, your family’s schedule and the follow-up contact you were given.
