PRIVACY & TRUST CENTER

Family navigation with less data.

Onward Families is caregiver-led. We intentionally avoid confidential child records and collect only what is needed to organize choices, support a Family Mission, or make an introduction you approve.

Data minimizationCaregiver controlledNo student-record vault

What we collect

Account name/email; optional caregiver phone where requested; child nickname/label, grade band and ZIP; selected needs; Family Mission goals, steps and safe planning notes; saved organizations; referral consent and contact preferences; optional adult research responses; and limited security/usage records.

What we prohibit

Do not provide a child’s legal name, birthdate, SSN, IEP/504, medical/disability information, custody information, discipline records, report cards, transcripts, or enrollment documents. Organizations—not Onward Families—handle enrollment records.

How information is used

To operate your account, organize Family Missions, show relevant schools/programs, save choices, make introductions you explicitly approve, provide support, secure the service, and improve aggregate service quality. Optional research has a separate adult consent process.

Service providers

We use infrastructure and authentication/service providers necessary to operate the platform. Providers may process information only for their contracted service purpose. Our processor inventory is reviewed as the service changes; we do not authorize providers to build advertising profiles from Family Mission data.

Children & schools

Onward Families is designed for parents and adult caregivers, not for children to create accounts or submit personal information. It does not ask families to upload education records. If a school or organization uses Onward Families, it remains responsible for its own FERPA and student-record obligations. We do not claim that a badge or certification has been awarded unless and until the issuing organization awards it.

Retention & deletion schedule

Account & Family Routes

While your account is active; deleted when you delete the account, subject to limited legal/security exceptions.

Referral introductions

Kept only as long as reasonably needed to complete, document, or resolve the introduction and applicable legal obligations.

Optional research responses

Until withdrawal or the study no longer requires identifiable responses; withdrawal removes individual responses from future reporting.

Security/session records

Short-lived or retained only as reasonably needed for security, fraud prevention and system integrity.

Privacy requests

Retained as a compliance record after resolution so we can document the request and response.

Our operating rule is to keep personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the stated purpose, security, dispute resolution, or applicable legal obligations, then delete or de-identify it.

Your privacy choices

Authenticated caregivers can request access to their information, ask us to correct it, request deletion of referral information that may not be directly linked to the account, or permanently delete the account-linked data described above.

Security & incident response

Sessions use secure, HTTP-only cookies. Access to administrative functions is role-restricted. We minimize stored child information, separate optional research consent, and review privacy-sensitive changes. Suspected security incidents are triaged, contained, investigated, documented, remediated, and escalated for legally required notification where applicable.
